Developmental Editing
Strengthening Your Book’s Foundation
A developmental edit takes a deep dive into your manuscript, providing detailed suggestions for improvement. The need for developmental editing varies depending on the book, but it is a crucial step in refining your work before publication.
For fiction, this process focuses on character development, world-building, story structure, plot consistency, pacing, tension, and language, ensuring your narrative is engaging and cohesive. For non-fiction, it may involve strengthening the manuscript’s organization, clarifying subject matter, and enhancing subject-specific knowledge.
As part of our publishing services, we offer flexible editing solutions tailored to your needs. In many cases, a basic developmental edit can be done alongside the initial copy and line edit, streamlining the process while ensuring your book reaches its full potential.
•The Basic Developmental edit is in addition to the Standard copy and line edit and is often very necessary. It includes a clear written report (usually around 1000 words) with suggestions for general improvements with some examples to give you pointers.
16.00 for every 10,000 words. (50K word book = 80.00)
• An Advanced developmental edit would include all aspects of improvement required (as suggested at the top)
It would also include a more detailed report and would be looked at by someone with specific knowledge of the genre.
