Formatting your book for Print and E-pub
Every published book should be correctly formatted. This doesn’t mean that a neat Microsoft word document supplied by the Author is going to do the job – it’s a start, but once properly edited the book will need to be properly formatted.
Most vendors will have tools to help you format your book for their particular platform, but this will often not suffice when you want to have your books distributed across lots of platforms.
Formatting an e-book is slightly easier but their are glitches occasionally between systems and so when we format an e-book we take all those things into account.
Formatting a print book is something that works far better when done on an individual basis. The style for the genre and the overall ‘look’ needs to be consistent. Most online tools , although they give you lots of choices don’t always allow for this. Therefore we highly recommend that you do treat formatting as an essential professional service that your book requires.

When formatting a book for print it needs to be set up with the appropriate fonts for text and titles. As well as this, chapters should have the correct headers and footers. The ‘front matter’ and ‘back matter’ are also areas that need careful consideration for every book. Not all books will require the same content. For an e-book there is one major difference from a print book: it needs to be a continuous file, not in pages. There are lots of tools available for formatting an ebook, the only important thing is getting the file format correct without any glitches in layout. If you do format yourself, always test first. Most vendors now are set on the e-pub format but one or two may still require a mobi file
